portrait of Dr. Karsonya Wise Whitehead

The Carter G. Woodson Center for Interracial Education launched a new program called PACE, which focuses on four pillars of scholarship: Poverty, Anti-Racism, Coalition building and Education. Each academic year the center will bring speakers associated with these pillars to present to the campus and community. The first speaker for this inaugural year was Dr. Karsonya Wise Whitehead with her talk titled, “How to Get in Good and Necessary Trouble Right Now: Strategies for Redeeming the Soul of America.”
Whitehead is an educator, author, radio host, speaker and documentary filmmaker who is known as the #blackmommyactivist. She is an associate professor of Communication and African and African American Studies at Loyola University in Maryland. She is a three-time New York Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker.
