Generous alumni and friends who support Berea College gathered on campus for the Day of Thanks in mid-October. This special day was a chance for the College to celebrate those who make Berea’s mission possible with their contributions. The Day of Thanks featured workshops from campus staff and faculty such as Aaron Beale, Chris Miller, Judge Wilson II and Dr. Kathy Bullock. Attendees learned about the connections between African American and Appalachian music, were able to ask questions of the College attorney about estate planning, viewed Berea College and Appalachian artifacts from the College collection and saw a demonstration of Berea College’s historic Student Craft.
Guests also took campus tours and attended dinner with student speakers Ishara Nanayakkara ’20, Berea’s Student Government Association president, and Star Clifton ’20, who serves as the Campus Christian Center’s service chaplain, with an aim to bringing spirituality and community service together. A jazz quintet made up of members of the Berea College Jazz Ensemble entertained the guests at dinner. About 60 alumni and friends visited campus for the occasion and were recognized for making Berea College an essential part of their philanthropy.
